Would be better if you could include figures for non-homeowners as well in these posts. There are a lot of us out here who don’t own our own homes!

I am loving the graphics Becs and what a great article, love that statement, "we can't control the returns, but we can plan the journey" put our efforts into the things we can control🙌

Getting near the pointy end of my accumulation, with retirement looming I agree re the guardrails, mine are set at minimum 5.5% and a hoped for upper of 7% At 7% my super balance would grow on my usual spending or I could turn a good year or two into a holiday or discretionary home improvement etc. At 5.5% the balance will be descending but good for more than 17 years factoring in indexation of 1.5-2%. The tricky bit is whether, when moving to pension phase, to leave the mix of investments where they are, biased for growth and dispersed by area (Environmental invest, balanced, overseas, equities etc), or fall back to a more conservative position, including more cash and blue chip in the mix. Still deciding. I am certainly leaning towards keeping at least a third in offshore investment.

So, ASFA is now $630K for a single AU homeowner. I'm curious whether there is a similar change in NZ, given probably similar inflation in both countries.

I’m with ART and wondering if I should move my $$ to a better performing fund. What is the best source of fund comparison data? And is it wise to move money if I am 4-5 years off retirement?

Look at the way your money is invested in your fund and compare apples with apples. Look at what balanced funds have done in good and bad years between different funds. ART is up there with the top performing funds. Bec Wilson’s books are a good place to start to educate yourself before doing anything and speak to your super fund. 5 years before retiring you need some advice as to how your money would be best invested to keep it growing for long term but also some protection against the volatility that’s predicted over the next few years. Compare super funds in your my gov account and look up comparisons and awards on Chant West.
